Blitzen Trapper brings its fuzzy fusion to The Fox Theatre! *********************** TONIGHT **********************

Who knew that alt-folk and country sounds would be the hottest musical trend for bands?
Dr. Dog, Cory Chisel and Blitzen Trapper have all discovered a new generation of fans that like to add a little twang to their rock.
Blitzen Trapper is getting ready to play the Fox Theatre on Tuesday, and the band plans to show off its fusion of indie, country and rock sounds.
“We’re based out of Portland — that’s the city where everyone ends up in Oregon,” vocalist/guitarist Eric Earley said. “It’s a good place to be creative and write music. There are lots of bands there and it’s cheap to live.
“It’s been pretty nice to be part of that music community.”
Earley and his band have earned a music buzz with their experimental brand of folk-rock music. The group was signed to Sub Pop Records in 2007, and the label’s push has put Blitzen Trapper on the map.
“Our music is a combination of rock and folk,” Earley said. “All popular American music is drawn from traditional elements, and we combine folk, electric and indie rock into our sounds.
“We like to write songs about love, death, the future, the past and the present. Those topics have something for everyone.”
Blitzen Trapper’s last CD was dubbed Furr and it earned the Northwest band critical acclaim. The group’s tunes were even used on several episodes of the TV series “Chuck.”
The band’s already thinking about its next full-length record. Blitzen Trapper released the EP Black River Killer to keep fans satisfied until the next CD comes out.
“The EP’s mostly a b-sides thing, but the songs all fit together,” Earley said. “We’re going to make the next record in January. It’s going to have American soul and lots of keyboards.
“I always like to make two records at a time, so we’re going to have lots of songs to choose from.”
Blitzen Trapper’s Boulder show will cover lots of musical turf.
“We go a lot of places during our shows. It’s like traveling on a musical journey,” Earley said. “We have acoustic songs, piano ballads, rock songs and lots of vocals. It’s a different show every night.”
