2012 Boulder Roots & Blues Festival has Arrived!:

4 shows in 2 venues over 2 days! All your Boulder Roots & Blues Summit show information and updates for the 2012 festival may be found at Facebook.com/BoulderBlues

After the much anticipated success of the first year, the Boulder Roots & Blues Summit is bringing Boulder another great line up of Roots & Blues greatest artists for two days between two nationally renowned venues. The second annual Boulder Roots & Blues Summit will take place May 18th and 19th, in historic Boulder, Colorado. Be sure to join us at the Boulder Theater each day for the early shows, and then move to the Fox Theatre for the late-night shows.

On March 6th, 1992 the Fox Theatre opened its doors in Boulder, Colorado with a performance by the Meters. The Fox Theatre family is honored The Funky Meters will return to lead the celebration on March 1st to kick off the legendary venue’s 20th anniversary month.

Anniversaries are an opportunity to bring family together, therefore The Fox is excited for Leftover Salmon to perform on March 6th & 7th. The Boulder based “Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass” band paved the way for the national jamgrass scene.

Over the past 20 years, the sheer number of artists who performed on the Fox stage is staggering. Over 10,000 artists graced the stage at The Fox, many on their way to international stardom. Radiohead, The Dave Matthews Band, Phish, The Black Keys, Bon Iver, The String Cheese Incident, Ray LaMontagne, 311, Jack Johnson, My Morning Jacket, Deadmau5, Taj Mahal, Coldplay , Run DMC, Moby, The Killers, Wilco, John Fogerty, Bonnie Raitt, Common, Willie Nelson, Dr. John, Gilberto Gil, Femi Kuti, Skrillex, The Black Crowes, Ben Harper, Atmosphere, Counting Crows, Burning Spear, Widespread Panic, Ween, Social Distortion, Michael Franti and Spearhead, The Flaming Lips, Warren Zevon, Kings of Leon, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, The Fray, 3oh!3, Pretty Lights, Ryan Adams, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Gil Scott Heron, John Butler, Robert Palmer, Death Cab for Cutie and No Doubt are just a snippet of incredible performers who started their illustrious careers at The Fox. Due to inclement weather and road closures, Dr. Dog was not able to make it to Colorado. Tonight’s 2/3 Dr. Dog show at the Boulder Theater has been officially postponed. We are looking forward to having them back in Boulder and we will be in touch with a rescheduled date shortly!

If you purchased tickets via credit card, you will be automatically refunded for this purchase. If you purchased tickets via cash you can get your cash refund at the Boulder Theater box office M-F 3pm-7pm or Saturday noon-5pm

If you would still like to see music tonight, head up to the Fox Theatre. Just show your Dr. Dog ticket or purchase confirmation email for free entry into The Lemonheads show at the Fox Theatre TONIGHT! Please note entry for Dr. Dog Ticket Purchasers will be on a first come first serve basis.

Doors are at 8:30 and music from Meredith Sheldon starts at 9:00 pm sharp. The Lemonheads will be performing “Its A Shame About Ray” in its entirety!

Skerik - Saxophonist: A founding member of Critters Buggin’. Skerik has jammed with soul legend Fred Wesley, Pink Floyd mastermind Roger Waters, and Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade. Jambase theorized that ‘the rotation of our planet is somehow connected with this outer space super hero.’

Stanton Moore - Drums and Polyrhythms: A founding member of the New Orleans funk band Galactic, Stanton kicked off his solo career in 1998. Moore continues to play dates globally with an ever-evolving cast of musicians including George Porter, Jr., Leo Nocentelli (of the Meters), Charlie Hunter, John Medeski (of Medeski, Martin and Wood), Donald Harrison Jr., Dr. Lonnie Smith, Dr. John and Tab Benoit to name a few.

Marco Benevento - Keys and Organ: Marco Benevento is best known as one half of the Benevento/Russo Duo along with Joe Russo. A regular on the New York City contemporary and experimental jazz scene, he has performed with countless musicians ranging from John Medeski (medeski martin & wood), Mike Gordon (phish), Trey Anasatio (phish), Eric Krasno (soulive/lettuce), Dave Dreiwitz (ween), Les Claypool, Phil Lesh (grateful dead), and others.

Mike Dillon - Percussion and Vibraphone: An original member of the eclectic Critters Buggin’, Mike has toured with Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and was described by Jambase as ‘possessed with a desire to always find something new, something deliciously rhythmic in any piece.’

This Thanksgiving Season, Conscious Alliance will be hosting their 8th Annual Holiday Meal Delivery, taking place November 17-20, 2011. Last year, Conscious Alliance distributed over 10,000 holiday meal boxes to Native American households on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana.

The 2011 goal is to once again distribute over 10,000 meals this winter, and keep emergency food storage on the Pine Ridge and Northern Cheyenne Reservations stocked throughout the season.

Many people are unaware of the conditions in these communities. On Pine Ridge, 97% of the population lives under the poverty level. The unemployment rate is consistently over 85%, due primarily to the extreme economic isolation of the reservation. Food insecurity is rampant.

The climate is extreme in this region of the country, with regular winter blizzards, and temperatures annually falling to -20° and lower. In the winter, people make a very real choice between buying food and buying fuel for heating their home.

Conscious Alliance strives to alleviate the immediate need for the basic necessities of life, while simultaneously teaming up with community leaders to create possibilities for the future. As we provide food to the reservations, we are working with these leaders to inspire members of the community, with particular focus on positive youth outreach to empower the next generation.
